Fire Protection

On behalf of all members of the Natchitoches Fire Department, I would like to welcome you to our website. It is designed to inform and educate those who visit.

Our mission is to protect the lives and property of our citizens and visitors by providing both emergency and non-emergency services with professionalism, dedication, integrity and a commitment to excellence. This is just another way for us to expand our services.
I am proud of our department and the services we provide. You have a very professional fire department, not because of the chief, but rather, those that staff the apparatus and respond to our calls for assistance.
Thank you for visiting our website and feel free to visit your neighborhood fire station in person.

Chief Crit Miller

The City of Natchitoches Fire Department protects the city with three fire stations and 45 employees. Not only does the department provide fire, EMS, rescue and hazardous materials response, but the department also provides fire prevention, public education programs, fire investigations, annual fire inspections and pre-incident fire planning.

The department maintains its own fire training center located at the Louisiana Technical College – Natchitoches campus. Basic firefighter training and specialized training is conducted at the Fire Training Center. The Fire Department also maintains a hazardous materials response team, dive team and honor guard.

Class 2 Fire Department
In September 2006, Natchitoches Fire Department improved its Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating from a Class 3 to a Class 2, awarded by Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL). We were able to improve our classification through diligence and the hard work by all our personnel.
Fire Departments are surveyed and are classified from 1 (Best) to 10 (Worst) based on three categories:
Water distribution - 40 percent
Fire department equipment and manpower - 50 percent
Communications - 10 percent
The PPC rating has a direct bearing on the cost of property insurance for every home and commercial building in a community.
