BURN BAN LIFTED FOR THE CITY OF NATCHITOCHES

 

NATCHITOCHES – City of Natchitoches Fire Chief John Wynn would like to notify residents the current burn ban has been lifted within the city limits. However, permits are required when burning inside the city and the permit can be requested by calling 318-357-3861.  For those living outside the city, contact your local fire district authority for the burn ban status in your district.

 

Rules for Burning Inside City Limits:

 

  1. The Fire Department MUST be contacted (318-357-3861) to evaluate where your piles are and a permit will be issued
  2. According to State Law, burning must be between the hours of 08:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. 
  3. Someone shall remain with the fire at all times and shall have a garden hose available should the fire get out of control.  The Fire Department will be notified immediately by dialing 911.
  4.  The permit voids if windy conditions exist.
  5.  The piles need to be no larger than 10’X10’ in size, and away from buildings or other flammable hazards.
  6.  When large areas are to be burned, a pit or pits shall be dug and all debris to be burned will be placed in the pit or pits.  This burn site must be isolated.  There shall be equipment to control the fire, such as a tractor with a disc, a front end loader, grader or other suitable equipment that remains on site throughout the burn.  An operator must remain on site to operate the equipment. At 5:00 p.m. the pits will be covered over with soil to extinguish the fire or fires until the next morning at 8:00 a.m. 
  7. Burn permits are only issued for one day at a time as weather conditions change daily.  If the person doing the burning needs to burn for additional days, the fire department must be contacted each day to issue another permit.
