CITY RELEASES GUIDELINES FOR TRICK-OR-TREATING AND OTHER HALLOWEEN FESTIVITIES

 

NATCHITOCHES – The City of Natchitoches would like to notify and encourage the public to follow the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for trick or treating and other Halloween festivities in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.  The CDC has also recommended alternate activities for Halloween that can be found at www.cdc.gov.

 

Residents can make trick-or-treating safer by: 

• Avoiding direct contact with trick-or-treaters
• Giving out treats outdoors, if possible
• Setting up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take
• Washing hands before handling treats
• Wearing a mask

Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to wear a mask (a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth mask), stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you, and wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer when available. 

Trick-or-treaters should follow the following safety tips:

• Always be accompanied by an adult
• Only go to homes with a porch light on
• Never enter a home or car for a treat
• Look both ways before crossing the street
• Head home at dusk

While this is an unusual year, we are asking the public to participate in festivities as safely and responsibly.  If you may have COVID-19 or you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween festivities and should not give out candy to trick-or-treaters.
